Hepp, Hayes lead UNH women's track at ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - Juniors Megan Hepp (Milton, Vt.) and Caitlin Hayes (Keene, N.H.) led a small but impressive contingent from the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team at the ECAC Championships, which were held at Princeton University's Weaver Track and Field Stadium from May 15-18.

Hepp, who won the 3000-meter steeplechase at the America East Championships and was runner-up in that event at the New England Championships, earned fifth place in the 5000m at the ECAC Championships with a time of 16 minutes, 56.65 seconds.

Hayes, the 10000m America East champion and third-place finisher in the 5000m at the New England Championships, competed in the 10000m at the ECACs and, with a time of 36:08.34, was the sixth runner to cross the finish line.

Also in competition for UNH was the 4x800 relay team of Katie Litwinowich (Holden, Mass.), Amy Czesnowski (Branford, Conn.), Leighann Carpenter (Princeton, Mass.) and Kristen Meisner (Nashua, N.H.). That quartet ran a school-record time of 8:51.095 at the Drake Relays, established a conference record at this year's America East Championships and ran the second-fastest time of 8:53.44 in the ECAC preliminaries. In the final heat, they were clocked in 8:54.23 to finish in sixth place.
