DURHAM, N.H. -- Catherine Parker (Westfield, Mass.), Kiah Quarles (Derry, N.H.) and Chia-Ling Wu (Merrimack, N.H.) recorded first place in the 3000-meter steeplechase, 100m dash and hammer throw, respectively, to highlight the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team's performance at Saturday's UNH Wildcat Invitational I that was held at the Reggie F. Atkins Track and Field Facility.
Quarles crossed the finish line in 13.16 seconds to beat the 14-runner field in the 100m dash and she placed third in both the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.12 and the ling jump with a distance of 5.53 meters. UNH also finished 4-5 in the 100m as Carolyn Kaulbach (Plaistow, N.H.) was timed in 13.63 to edge teammate Colleen Ray (Bradford, Mass.) at 13.68.
Parker completed the steeplechase in 11:01.93 to defeat the nearest competitor by almost five seconds -- the runner-up crossed the finish line in 11:06.67.
Wu led a strong UNH throws contingent by winning the hammer throw with a distance of 48.40 meters. Erin Moore (Nashua, N.H.) had another solid overall meet by finishing third in both the hammer (45.88m) and shot put (12.29m) as well as fourth in the discus (33.18m). Amanda Cmielewski (Englishtown, N.J.) took second place in the javelin with a best effort of 33.83m and gave the Wildcats three of the top five places in the hammer with a fifth-place effort of 41.60m. Sarah Crane (Londonderry, N.H.) was the fourth Wildcat to record a top-five finish in the throws with her fifth-place effort of 32.66m in the discus.
New Hampshire dominated the 5000m run by taking second through sixth place. Hillary Greene (Old Town, Maine) paced the quintet with a time of 18:49.98 and was followed closely by Ashley Vance (Manchester, N.H.) in 18:51.14. Danielle Costanza (Peterborough, N.H.; 19:09.98), Elizabeth Morrissey (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.; 19:29.18) and Allison Pomykato (Hampstead, N.H.; 20:02.52) finished 4-5-6. Also on the track, Emily Mareb (Great Barrington, Mass.) was fourth across the finish line in the 1500m run with a time of 4:47.31 and Jamie Bemis (Bow, N.H.) recorded the fifth-fastest time in the 800m at 2:23.43. UNH received sixth-place efforts from Kimberly Usseglio (Watertown, Mass.) in the 200m (27.58) and Alex Norden (Easton, N.H.) in the 400m hurdles (1:08.32).
In the jumps, the Wildcats recorded two of the top six efforts in the triple jump. Janelle Bosse (Hampden, Maine) took fourth place with a distance of 10.45m and Kerryn MacDonald(Old Saybrook, Maine) finished sixth at 10.08m. UNH's other top-six effort of the day was recorded by Katie Murray (Leominster, Mass.), who cleared 1.52m in the high jump.
