WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD PLACES THIRD AT 2006 AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS

DURHAM, NH. - The University of New Hampshire women's track and field team accumulated 121.5 points for a third place finish at the America East Track and Field Championships.

On the field it was senior thrower Erin Moore (Nashua, N.H.) dominating for the Wildcats. Moore set a personal best to win the shot put event with a throw of 13.34 meters while qualifying for NCAA Regionals. Freshman Erica Desroches (Stratham, N.H.) won third place in the event with a throw of 12.75 meters.

Moore also placed third in the discus throw with a throw reaching 36.97 meters. Freshman Sarah Crane (Londonderry, N.H.) placed fifth with a throw of 36.35 meters while sophomore Brienna Smith (Sandown, N.H.) earned eighth place with a throw of 33.06 meters. In all, New Hampshire's throwers accounted for 56 points over the two day event.

In the high jump event, senior Chloe Harry (Tyler, Texas) cleared 1.58 meters for a fourth place finish while teammate Amy Roccio (Beverly, Mass.) matched the same height for a sixth place finish.

On the track, junior distance runner Emily Mareb (Great Barrington, Mass.) paced herself to a third place finish in the 5000-meter run, clocking in at 17 minutes, 33.86 seconds and recording six points for New Hampshire.

Sophomore Kathleen Hoppe (Hopkington, Mass.) competed in the seven-event heptathlon (100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200-meter dash, long jump, javelin throw, 800-meter) and finished fifth overall with a score of 3699.

In the relays, junior Nicole Whalen (Warwick, N.Y.), senior Chelsea Corr (East Greenbush, N.Y.) junior Amanda Schweizer (Merrimac, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Haley (Dover, N.H.) powered the Wildcats to a fifth place finish in the 800-meter relay when they crossed the finish line at 9:31.52. Haley also competed in the 800-meter run and placed eighth at 2:16.47.

New Hampshire saw a sixth place finish in the 4x400-meter relay consisting of freshman Jamie Bemis (Bow, N.H.), Harry, junior Kim Usseglio (Watertown, Mass.) and freshman Sarah Hall (Nottingham, N.H.) with a time of 4:00.36.

Hall along with Usseglio, sophomore Kiah Quarles (Derry, N.H.) and sophomore Carolyn Kaulbach (Plaistow, N.H.) crossed the line at 49.56 for a sixth place finish in the 4x100-meter relay. Hall also achieved a personal best in the 200-meter dash with a final time of 25.31.
