New Hampshire Volleyball beaten by UMass, 3-0

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of New Hampshire Volleyball team fell to the University of Massachusetts in the finale of the UMass Invitational on Saturday, 3-0.

The Minutewomen won the tournament going undefeated with a 3-0 record, while the Wildcats were runners-up at 2-1. Earlier in the day, UNH (4-3) beat intrastate rival Dartmouth College, 3-1.

Junior Lauren Knight (Centerville, Mass.) and sophomore Alyson Coler (Monte Sereno, Calif.) were named to the all-tournament team. Coler led the 'Cats with 57 kills and 35 digs in three matches. Knight, a co-captain, had 38 kills and 21 digs.

Massachussets (5-2) swept New Hampshire, 30-18, 30-24, 30-23. Coler had a team-high 12 kills and freshman Bonnie Wilson (Moraga, California) chipped in with 10 kills. Nitia Small led the Minutewomen with 14 kills, while tournament Most Valuable Player Lauren Vander Veen had 10 kills.

The Wildcats only dropped one game in the win vs. Dartmouth, 30-27, 26-30, 20-30, 30-17. Coler had a career-high 25 kills to go along with 12 digs. Knight also produced a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Erin Ludwig (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) had 46 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore Natasha Otte (Plymouth, N.H) was a force at the net with six blocks, two solo and four assisted.

UNH returns to action at Lundholm Gymnasium on Sept. 11 against Dartmouth (7 p.m.).
