DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire head volleyball coach Jill Hirschinger has announced the hiring of Stacy Barnett as assistant coach of the UNH women's volleyball program.
Barnett most recently served as graduate assistant coach at the University of Delaware for two seasons under head coach Bonnie Kenny. She returns to her alma mater after a successful playing (1997-2000) and coaching career under Coach Hirschinger. Barnett will primarily be responsible for assisting Coach Hirschinger as the team's recruiting coordinator and coaching the Wildcat setters.
While at UNH, Barnett was the starting setter in three of her four years in Durham and she helped guide the team to the school's first ever America East championship and NCAA appearance in 1998. Barnett was also a part of the Wildcat coaching staff that won the 2002 America East title.
Barnett, who graduated from UNH in 2001 with a BS degree in Communications, was a two-time captain for the 'Cats and was the first player in school history to post 3,000 assists. Her 3,977 assists still stands as a school record and she also holds the top two single-season assists marks with 1,350 in 2000 and 1,291 in 1999.
Barnett was also a coach for the Seacoast Junior Olympic Program for five seasons from 1999 to 2003.
