VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS PAST COPPIN STATE, 3-0, AT PC'S FRIAR CLASSIC

Acres (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) tallied a team-high nine
kills, nine digs and hit at a .400 clip to lift the University of
New Hampshire volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Coppin State in the
first day of competition at the Providence College Friar Classic on
Friday night.
The set scores were 25-13, 25-15 and 28-26. The Wildcats, which
improve to 6-9 overall, will conclude play at the tournament with
matches against St. Francis (N.Y.) (1 p.m.) and the host Friars (5
p.m.) on Saturday.
In addition to Acres, Taylor Dressing (Gillette,
N.J.) registered seven kills, while Lindsay
Fogarty (Pleasanton, Calif.) and Kirsten
Bates (Calgary, Alberta) had five kills apiece. Freshman
Jansan Falcusan (Plymouth, Mich.) and Kate
Uitti (Pinckney, Mich.) paced the Wildcat offense with 19
and 14 kills, respectively.
In the opening set, the Wildcats hit at a match-high .423 clip and
held Coppin State to just four kills as they went out to a 14-7
lead and cruised to the 12-point win. In set two, the teams went
back and forth early as the set was tied at 8-8 until New Hampshire
went on an 8-0 run to take a 16-8 lead. The Wildcats went on to
capture the 10-point set victory. The third and final set took
extra points to settle as UNH earned the 28-26 win. New Hampshire
led throughout the set including holding a 24-19 lead. The Eagles
would break match-point five-straight times and six times overall
before the Wildcats went on to capture the set and the match.
New Hampshire concludes play at the Providence College Friar
Classic on Saturday with matches against St. Francis (N.Y.) at 1
p.m. and against PC at 5 p.m. UNH's next home match is the America
East opener vs. Binghamton University on Oct. 2; start time at
