DURHAM, N.H. - Senior Morgan Thatcher (Brockton, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire volleyball team has been named America East Player of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon.
The right side hitter led the UNH volleyball team to a 2-1 record at the Lehigh Classic (Aug. 30-31) and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Thatcher paced the Wildcats in kills all three matches to finish with 44 while contributing 19 digs and seven blocks. Overall, Thatcher accumulated a hitting percentage of .268 percentage in the three matches.
She started the 2013 campaign with 18 kills, eight digs and three blocks to lead the 'Cats to a five-set victory against Lehigh. The following day, she tallied 16 kills and five digs in a five-set loss to Rhode Island and finished with 10 kills, six digs in the straight-set win against Saint Peter's. Currently, the co-captain stands 10th all-time in career kills with 863.
The Wildcats will be in action tonight on the road against Northeastern, starting at 7 p.m. After Tuesday's contest, New Hampshire will return home for their home opener in the Holly Young Invitational. The two-day tournament will feature the New Hampshire, Brown, Missouri State and St. John's starting Friday, Sept. 6.
