Women's Cross Country Falls to Providence in Season Opener

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Anne Twombly (Exeter, N.H.) finished third overall, but the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team dropped a dual meet to Providence College in the season opener Friday afternoon at the College Woods course.

Providence finished with a team total of 20 points, while the Wildcats finished second with 42 points.

Twombly finished the 5-kilometer course in a time of 18:06.2, while Providence's Laura Nagel won the event at 17:07.

Sophomore Chelsey Serrano (Manchester, N.H.), who placed 28th overall at last year's America East Championships as a freshman, took fifth in a time of 18:30.

Senior Meagan Boucher (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman McKenzie Haney (Penacook, N.H.) placed 10th and 11th, respectively, in times of 18:47.3 and 18:48.6.

Senior Erin Phillips (Belmont, N.H.) also turned-in a top-15 finish for the Wildcats as she placed 13th overall, crossing the finish line in a time of 19:35.6.

The Wildcats return to action on Friday, Sept. 14 when they host the Pre-Conference Meet at the College Woods course at 1:15 p.m.
