DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's cross country team is ranked 14th in the preseason Northeast Region Poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
New Hampshire is just one of three America East schools ranked in the top 15 institutions. Stony Brook is ranked 12th while Vermont received the 13th ranking. The Wildcats finished second at the America East Championship held at the University of New Hampshire. The squad went on to finish 13th at the NCAA Northeast Regional meet.
The USTFCCCA's regional rankings are a reflection of a team's strengths entering the year based on returning and new runners on each squad, and are selected by a representative in each region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
The Wildcats open the 2013 season on Saturday, Aug. 31 when they host Providence and Holy Cross at 11 a.m.
