Armstrong, Carlson Named Women's Hockey Captains; Broderick, Kashman Are Assistant Captains

DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey head coach Hilary Witt announced that senior forward Hannah Armstrong (Keswick, Ontario) and junior forward Sara Carlson (Hutchinson, Minn.) will captain the 2014-15 team. Caroline Broderick (Marblehead, Mass.) and Heather Kashman (Edmonton, Alberta) will serve as assistant captains.
Armstrong played all 34 games last year, when she as an assistant captain. She tied for fourth on the team in both goals (six) and points (14), as well as shots (103). In 21 Hockey East league games, Armstrong tallied eight points on four goals and four assists. She has compiled 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points in 105 career games.
Carlson also skated in every game in the 2013-14 season. She ranked third among the Wildcats in assists (12) and tied Armstrong for fourth in points with 14. Carlson tallied nine points – all on assists – in Hockey East action. She has totals of nine goals and 19 assists for 28 points in 68 career games.
Broderick is a senior defenseman who played in all 34 games last season. Amongst UNH defensemen, she tied for the lead in assists with eight. Broderick also scored two goals for a personal single-season high of 10 points. She has played in 97 career games with 20 points (6, 14a).
Kashman, a junior forward, played every game a year ago. She was one of New Hampshire's top centers in the faceoff circle; she was one of two 'Cats to both win 200 draws and take more than 400. Kashman matched Armstrong and Carlson with 14 points and she also ranked fourth in assists (nine); those numbers included 2-6-9 in Hockey East. She has 24 points (12g, 12a) in 67 career games.
UNH opens the 2014-15 season Sept. 27 (4 p.m.) with a Hockey East league game at the University of Maine. The Wildcats' home opener is Oct. 17 (7 p.m.) vs. Rensselaer.
