Stadium Gets Prepped For Winter Work

A crew dismantled the Dungeon on Tuesday.
Â
The stands in one end zone, the student section of Cowell Stadium, were being taken apart in anticipation of the UNH football team's offseason.
Â
At the same time, not far away on the back side of the new Wildcat Stadium, a line of heavy-duty lifts delivered materials to the upper reaches of the under-construction facility and workers carried out their duties on various levels of the building.
Â
"They're working on the exterior skin over the next month or so to set it up so we can run temporary heat in for places where we need to do temperature sensitive work," said Eric Price, superintendent for PC Construction, the project contractor. "By the middle of January we should be pushing heat in there."
Â
The weather thus far this fall has cooperated nicely.
Â
Workers have been installing rubber roofs on the new stadium this week and a road that goes behind the football team's practice facility, Bremner Field, has been roughed in.
Â
"We'll get everything closed in for the winter and then we'll keep pecking away at the inside," Price said.
Â
The football team closed out its season and Cowell Stadium with a loss to Patriot League champion Colgate in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Nov. 28.
Â
The next UNH game on the field will also be against a Patriot League team.
Â
The Wildcats open the new stadium – and the home portion of the 2016 season – just over nine months from now with a game against Holy Cross on Sept. 10.
Â
Need any stocking stuffers with Christmas fast-approaching? How about a seat deposit or two for the Wildcat football fan who has everything?
Â
UNH has launched a marketing campaign for the new stadium that enables fans to get on a priority list for 2016 football season tickets. A fully refundable deposit of $25 gets them priority position. Fans will be able to select the precise ticket package they are interested in, and their seats, at a later date.
Â
Deposits may be made by CLICKING HERE. Current season ticket holders do not need to sign up. They are already on the priority list. More information and tickets are also available by calling 603-862-4000.
Â
The UNH-Holy Cross game renews a New England rivalry and kicks off a four-game series between the teams.
Â
UNH plays at Holy Cross on Sept. 16, 2017 and Sept. 28, 2019. The teams also play at UNH on Oct. 6, 2018.
Â
Holy Cross had a 6-5 record this season.
Â
The teams last played in the season opener in 2012. UNH won that game in Worcester, 38-17. UNH beat Holy Cross, 39-32, the last time they met in Durham on Oct. 1, 2011.
Â
Holy Cross is the first of five UNH home games next season. The Wildcats also play William & Mary on Oct. 1, James Madison on Oct. 15, Stony Brook on Oct. 29 and Albany on Nov. 12 in their new stadium.
Â
The 2016 season opens at San Diego State on Sept. 3 and the other road games are at Dartmouth on Sept. 17, at Rhode Island on Sept. 24, at Elon on Oct. 8, at Towson on Oct. 22, and at Maine on Nov. 19.
