No. 18 Gymnastics Registers 195.225 in West Virginia Dual Meet

MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – Casey Lauter (Northport, N.Y.) set a career high on balance beam (9.950), and placed second in the all-around championship (39.075) in the 18^th-ranked University of New Hampshire gymnastics team's 195.800-195.225 loss to West Virginia University on Sunday afternoon at Cary Gym.

The Wildcats swept the top four scores on beam, but fell to 2-2 on the season. West Virginia earned its first victory of the year, improving to 1-2.

UNH returns home Sunday, Feb. 7, for the annual Wildcat Invitational quad-meet (1 p.m.) against the University of Bridgeport, Brown University and Towson University. "This was a great score for our first road meet of the season," head coach Gail Goodspeed said. "We started rough on bars, but fought to the very last beam routine. Casey scored a career high 9.95, and the head judge gave her routine a 10.0."

Lauter began with a 9.600 on uneven bars, but improved her scores in each event thereafter. The sophomore recorded a 9.725 on vault, a 9.800 on floor exercise (T-5^th), and closed with a personal-best on beam, capturing first place.

The Wildcats outscored the Mountaineers on beam (49.375-48.650), but were defeated in each of the other three events.

Danielle Mulligan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) registered the Wildcats' top score on bars for the third straight meet. The freshman scored a 9.850 to earn third place in the event.

Elizabeth Mahoney (Hanson, Mass.) achieved the top score for New Hampshire in vault, the team's second event of the afternoon. She scored a 9.775, good enough for a fourth place finish.

Danielle Doolin (Medford, N.J.) registered UNH's top mark on floor (9.850), earning a share of second place. The freshman also finished third in the all-around championship, posting a 39.050.

The Wildcats closed strongly on beam where they recorded six of the top seven performances, headlined by Lauter. Meghan Pflieger (Barneveld, N.Y.) placed second with a 9.900, followed by Kelsey Aucoin (Double Oak, Texas) with a 9.875. Lia Breeden (York, Pa.) finished fourth with a 9.850, followed by Doolin and Catarina Broccoli (Mystic, Conn.) who both finished with a 9.800.

"We had great team energy throughout, and I am very excited about this team," Goodspeed added.

The Wildcats continue their three-meet road trip with a quad-meet at Pittsburgh (Jan. 23 w/ George Washington, Temple) and the Don Tonry Bulldog Invitational quad at Yale on Jan. 30 (w/ Bridgeport, Southern Connecticut State).
