Muses Records Double-Double in 3-1 Loss at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. – Demi Muses (Orangevale, Calif.) recorded 13 kills and 18 digs, but the University of New Hampshire volleyball team was defeated 3-1 by Binghamton University on Friday night at West Gym. The set scores were 25-16, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19.
UNH, which entered with a four-match win streak, is now 11-9 overall and 4-1 in America East. Binghamton improved to 9-12, 3-3.

The Difference
New Hampshire, which entered the match with the highest hitting percentage in America East, was held to .113 overall that included .053 in the first set and -.022 in the decisive fourth set.
-1st set-
Binghamton won four consecutive points to build a 5-1 lead. UNH closed within 7-6, but the home team surged ahead 13-9 to force a Wildcats' timeout. UNH won four consecutive points out of the break to tie the score, 13-13. Binghamton won the next two points, however, as part of a 6-1 run that gave the Bearcats a 19-14 lead before New Hampshire called its second timeout. This time, Binghamton retained momentum with four more points to build a 23-14 advantage.
-2nd set-
In a set that saw 12 ties, the teams traded points early and Binghamton's 4-0 spurt gave the home team a 7-5 lead. UNH won four of the next five points to go back ahead, 9-8. With the score tied at 12, UNH went on another 4-1 run to build a 16-13 lead. Binghamton rallied to once again tie the score at 16 and eventually took a 19-18 lead. The Wildcats went on a decisive 5-0 run en route to leveling the match.
-3rd set-
UNH came out strong with a 3-0 lead, but the Bearcats responded with three consecutive points to tie the score. Binghamton erased another three-point deficit to knot the score at 12. The home team went on a 5-2 spurt to create a 17-14 cushion. The Wildcats were still within striking distance at 19-17 when Binghamton won three consecutive points to push the advantage to 22-17. UNH did not go quietly, however, as the Wildcats responded with three straight points to close within 22-20. And the deficit was trimmed to one, 23-22, but a Gaby Alicea kill advanced the score to set point for Binghamton. Demi Muses extended the set with a kill, but Alicea answered with another kill to close the set and give the home team a 2-1 lead in the match.
-4th set-

And the home team held a three-point advantage, 14-11, when it went on another 3-0 spurt to surge in front 17-11. The Wildcats closed within 21-18, but Binghamton replied with a 3-0 run to push the score to match point, 24-18. New Hampshire nullified one match point, but Loren Kornmann ended it with a kill on the next play.
