Muses Tallies 20 Kills, 16 Digs in 3-1 Win at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Demi Muses (Orangevale, Calif.) recorded 20 kills and 16 digs – both match highs – to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to Friday night's 3-1 victory against Stony Brook University at Pritchard Gymnasium. The set scores were 25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22.
UNH extended its win streak to three matches to improve to 14-10 overall and 5-2 in America East. SBU, which has lost eight straight in the series, including a straight-set road loss earlier this month, is now 6-17, 2-6.
It marked the 10th double-double of the season and fifth in the last six matches for Muses, who made only three hitting errors as part of a .354 hitting percentage. She also had four blocks.

The Difference
- UNH recorded a .278 hitting percentage in comparison to Stony Brook's .187. With the match tied at one set apiece and SBU ahead 20-18 in Set 3, the Wildcats went on a 7-3 run to take a 2-1 lead in the pivotal third set.
SET 1
- There were nine tie scores and five lead changes despite UNH's sizable advantage in hitting percentage – .382 to .118.
- Leading 13-12, the Wildcats won three consecutive points – an Emily Tanski (Plymouth, Mich.) kill followed by two SBU hitting errors – to surge in front, 16-12.
- New Hampshire closed out the set, 25-16, on a 5-0 run with a kill by Muses, two by Tanski, a Muses service ace and kill by Olhava.
SET 2
- There were eight ties and three lead changes. This was the only set in which SBU recorded a better hitting percentage – .250 to .237.
- The Wildcats led 13-9 before the Seawolves closed within 13-12, but the 'Cats made another run to build a 19-14 lead and force a Stony Brook timeout.
- UNH inched closer to taking a 2-0 lead in the match with a 21-17 advantage, but that's when the Seawolves rallied to tie the score on four consecutive Wildcat errors.
- New Hampshire regained its composure to take a 23-22 lead, but three consecutive kills by the home team ended the set, 25-23, to level the match.
SET 3
- SBU rode that momentum into Set 3 by taking an early leads of 3-0 and 5-2.
- UNH responded with four consecutive points, however, to go in front.
- With the score tied at 7, the 'Cats went on a 5-0 spurt, which included two Muses kills and a Muses block, to build a 12-7 advantage.
- The Seawolves replied with six straight points to regain a 13-12 lead.
- New Hampshire's 4-1 spurt gave the visitors a 16-14 lead, but SBU went on a 6-2 run to transform that two-point deficit into a two-point lead of 20-18.
- UNH called a timeout and responded with five consecutive points – once again the run included two Muses' kills and a block – to surge ahead 23-20.
- Stony Brook slowed momentum with Taylor Wilson's kill, but then a Seawolves attack error and kill by Smith gave UNH the third set, 25-21, for a 2-1 lead in the match.
- Set 3 featured 10 ties and five lead changes.
SET 4
- Stony Brook trailed 8-5 when it reeled off five consecutive points to take a 10-8 lead.
- The teams exchanged leads with neither team leading by more than two points until UNH won three consecutive points to extend a one-point margin into a 23-19 cushion.
- UNH inched within set point on a kill by Severtson, but then a UNH service error gave serve back to Stony Brook with the Seawolves trailing 24-22. The home team could not fight off a second match point, however, as a hitting error gave the Wildcats the fourth set, 25-22, and the match, 3-1.
