Hirschinger Records 750th Career Win in 3-1 Win at UMBC

Muses Records Double-Double With 17 Kills, 20 Digs
BALTIMORE, Md. – Demi Muses (Orangevale, Calif.) recorded 17 kills and 20 digs – both match highs – to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to Sunday afternoon's 3-1 victory against UMBC at the RAC Arena. The set scores were 25-16, 27-29, 25-16, 25-20.
It marked the 750th career victory for 21st-year UNH head coach Jill Hirschinger, who has 341 wins at the helm of the Wildcats.
UNH extended its win streak to four matches to improve to 15-10 overall and 6-2 in America East. UMBC, which has lost 11 straight in the series, including a straight-set road loss in late September, is now 14-7, 5-3.
Muses recorded her 11th double-double of the season and sixth in the last seven matches. She also had three blocks and two assists, as well as a .279 hitting percentage.

The Difference
- After UMBC won a marathon second set, UNH held a 15-13 lead in Set 3 when the Wildcats reeled off seven consecutive points to take a commanding 22-13 lead en route to a 25-16 score that gave New Hampshire a 2-1 lead in the match. The 'Cat attack hit .310 in that set while limiting UMBC to a .051 hitting percentage.
SET 1
- UNH led virtually the entire set. The Wildcats won the first point of the match and UMBC won the next point to tie the score. New Hampshire won the next two points and the score was never tied the rest of the way.
- The 'Cats extended the lead to 7-2 and 15-6 before establishing a double-digit cushion of 19-8.
- The Retrievers went on a 5-0 spurt to prompt a UNH timeout. UMBC committed a pair of errors out of that break to give the Wildcats a 21-13 advantage.
- Back-to-back kills by Muses and Olhava ended the first set, 25-16.
SET 2
- There were 12 ties and nine lead changes in the hotly contested second set.
- UMBC won consecutive points to take an 11-7 lead, at which point UNH called time out.
- The Wildcats responded with five consecutive points – three on Tanski service aces – to regain the lead at 12-11.
- The Retrievers trailed 14-13 when they went on a 4-0 run.
- New Hampshire trailed 21-19 but replied with four straight points to go back in front, 23-21.
- UMBC gained set point with a 3-0 run, but Olhava and Courtney Bowman (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) combined for a block to extend the set.
- The 'Cats fended off two more set points but succumbed 29-27 to level the match at one set apiece.
SET 3
- New Hampshire trailed 7-4 but went on a six-point tear – Muses recorded two kills during the spurt – to take a 10-7 lead and the home team never pulled even the remainder of the third set.
- UMBC did close within 11-10, but Tanski's kill denied the Retrievers a chance to pull even.
- UNH led 15-13 when it went on its decisive run to extend the margin to 22-13; Muses had two blocks and a kill during the spurt, while Bowman tallied a kill and a block.
- The 'Cats recorded their best single-set attack percentage (.310) while holding the Retrievers to their lowest (.051).
SET 4
- UNH led 5-4 when three consecutive points gave the visitors a four-point cushion of 8-4.
- UMBC chipped away to tie the score, 12-12, and took a 13-12 lead.
- Another kill by Muses was the first of three straight Wildcat points that put UNH back in front, 15-13.
- After the Retrievers forged the fourth tie of the game, 15-15, consecutive kills by Bowman and Tanski gave New Hampshire a lead it would not relinquish.
- With the score 22-20, Olhava sent the ball down and then the Retrievers committed back-to-back hitting errors to end the set, and match.
