Balanced Attack Lifts Women's Lax Past Hofstra, 14-8

DURHAM, N.H. – A balanced attack and eight-save effort by Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) propelled the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Saturday afternoon's 14-8 season-opening victory against Hofstra University at Cowell Stadium.

WHAT HAPPENED
- UNH scored the first four goals of the game and Hofstra never pulled closer than three goals the rest of the way.
- Rebecca Sennott (Westford, Mass.) opened the game scoring at 3:22 and Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) struck 53 seconds later to quickly give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. Laura McHoul (Westwood, Mass.), who set up Schafer's tally, pushed the advantage the three goals at 6:14 and Nicole Grote (Ellicott City, Md.) finished Sennott's feed to build a 4-0 lead at 8:32.
- The teams exchanged goals the remainder of the first half to send UNH into the locker room with a 7-3 lead.
- Hofstra's Lexi Lenaghan scored just 15 seconds into the second half and the Pride inched within 8-5 on Drew Shapiro's goal at 3:29, which came 27 seconds after McHoul potted her second unassisted goal of the game.
- New Hampshire responded with three consecutive goals to regain control of the game. Schafer began the spurt at 5:19 and was followed by Marissa Gurello (Manorville, N.Y.) at 7:41 and Sennott at 9:25.
- The margin fluctuated between five and seven goals the rest of the way.
- UNH held its largest lead of the game – seven goals – at 14-7 on a goal by Devan Miller (Bristol, R.I.) with 5:54 left in regulation.
GAME NOTES
- UNH scored 14 goals on 21 shots for a .667 shooting percentage.
- A total of 10 Wildcats recorded a point; six 'Cats tallied multiple points.
WILDCAT NOTES
- Sophomore Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.), who recorded one point in 16 games last season, recorded two points with a goal and an assist.
- Schafer, also a sophomore, matched her career highs in both goals and point with her three goals.
- Sennott, yet another sophomore, recorded her first career multiple-point game with two goals and an assist. She also filled the stat sheet with two draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover.
- Freshman Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.) recorded her first career point with an assist on Schafer's first-half goal at 24:49. Sexton scored a second-half goal to finish with two points.
- Freshman Savanna Fiehler (Valley Center, Calif.) tallied her first collegiate point when she potted a free-position goal with five seconds left in the first half.
- Juniors Hope Kissick (Cohasset, Mass.) and Amy LeBel (Charlton, N.Y.) tied for the team lead with three ground balls. Kissick was also credited with one caused turnover and a draw control.
