Poturalski Named Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalist

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Andrew Poturalski (Williamsville, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team has been named one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award announced Wednesday.
The Hobey Baker Memorial Award is given annually to the nation's top NCAA Division I men's hockey player that displays outstanding skills in all phases of the game, strength of character on and off the ice, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements.
Poturalski, who signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League on March 8, is the first Hobey Baker Finalist for the Wildcats since Paul Thompson in 2011 and is the ninth finalist in program history. Jason Krog is the only UNH student-athlete to win the award as he did in 1999.
The Hockey East Scoring Champion finished the 2015-16 season with 52 points on 22 goals and 30 assists, good for second in the country and first in the conference. Poturalski started off the year with a four-point game against American International College on a goal and three assists on Oct. 10. On Oct. 23, a 10-game point streak would ensue in which he recorded 12 goals and 10 assists, including a hat trick at Rensselaer on Nov. 24. He put together another point streak that spanned eight games and saw four goals and six assists, starting on Nov. 23 against No. 13 Notre Dame.

The ten finalists were selected by voting from all 60 Division I college hockey head coaches and by online fan balloting. Next, the 27-member Selection Committee and an additional round of fan balloting through the Hobey Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TheHobey/ or the Hobey website at www.hobeybakeraward.com from March 17-27 will determine this year's Hobey Baker winner. Criteria for the award include: displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, strength of character on and off the ice, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements.
The Hobey Hat Trick (three finalists) will be announced on March 31, 2016 and the Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced Friday, April 8, 2016 from Tampa, FL during the NCAA Frozen Four. The award announcement will take place at the historic Tampa Theatre, built in 1926 as one of America's most elaborate movie palaces. The announcement will be televised live on the NHL Network and can be followed on the Hobey Baker website at 6:00 p.m. ET. Following, in alphabetical order, is a look at each finalist.
