Women's Lax Ousted From America East Tourney With 17-4 Loss to Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) recorded double-digit saves for the fifth time this season but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 17-4 by seventh-ranked Stony Brook University in Friday evening's America East semifinal game at LaValle Stadium.
Clancy recorded six of her 10 saves in the first half, and five Wildcats recorded one point apiece in the closing game of the 2016 season.

GAME RECAP
- Stony Brook won the opening draw and scored 12 seconds into the game to quickly take a 1-0 lead. The Seawolves struck again 59 seconds later.
- Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored her team-leading 26th goal of the season when she finished a feed from Laura McHoul (Westwood, Mass.) to lift the Wildcats within 2-1 at 27:38.
- In the next five minutes, Clancy made four saves and the defense caused two turnovers, but SBU slowly pulled away to build a 6-1 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half.
- The Seawolves netted five goals the last four minutes of the half to take an 11-2 lead into halftime.
- Stony Brook extended the advantage to double digits, 12-2, 26 seconds into the second half and UNH never closed within single figures the rest of the way.
- Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) scored her 25th goal of the season on a free position at 9:29 to end the home team's streak of 15 consecutive goals.
- Nicole Grote (Ellicott City, Md.) closed the scoring with a free-position goal at 3:22.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Stony Brook's 17 goals marked the highest total by a UNH opponent this season; the previous high was 16 by both UMass and Fairfield.
- UNH finishes with six wins for the second consecutive season.
'CAT NIPS
- Senior attacker and captain Laura McHoul (Westwood, Mass.) recorded one assist for her 212th career point. McHoul is UNH's career assist leader with 133 and the 212 points ranks fourth on that leaderboard.
- McHoul holds four of the program's top six single-season assist marks – No. 1 (39 in 2014), No. 3 (33 in 2013), No. 5 (31 in 2016), No. 6 (30 in 2015).
- McHoul tallied a point every game this season to end her career with a 24-game point streak.
- The end of the season also marks the end of UNH careers for senior captain Nicole Grote (Ellicott City, Md.) and Hannah Wohltmann (Baltimore, Md.). Grote, who joined McHoul on this year's America East All-Conference Second Team, tallied 65 goals and 42 assists for 107 points in 66 games. Wohltmann, sidelined by injury the past two seasons, had seven points (6g, 1a) in 18 games.
- Lizzie Suschana (Somers, Conn.) recorded a career-high three ground balls, and she was also credited with two caused turnovers.
- Savanna Fiehler (Valley Center, Calif.) matched her personal best of three draw controls.
