Curtis, Haslett and Pelletier Announced Captains

DURHAM, N.H. – Hilary Witt, third-year head coach of the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, has announced that Jonna Curtis (Elk River, Minn.), Kate Haslett (Rothesay, New Brunswick) and Marie-Jo Pelletier (Dalhousie, New Brunswick) have been named captains of the 2016-17 team.
UNH begins practice this weekend in preparation for a Sept. 23 (7 p.m.) exhibition game against the Whitby Jr. Wolves. The Wildcats begin regular-season action Oct. 1 at Colgate University, and the home opener is scheduled for Oct. 8 (2 p.m.) against Quinnipiac University.
Tickets, ranging in price from $3 to $7, can be purchased online at www.unhwildcats.com 24 hours a day, or at the Whittemore Center Box Office or by calling (603) 862-4000 during office hours. The box office is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and, new this season, extended hours feature the box office opening at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday game days.

JONNA CURTIS PROFILE
- Curtis, a senior forward, received Hockey East Honorable Mention recognition each of the last two years (2015, 2016).
- Curtis led last year's squad in goals (16), assists (17) and points (33), as well as shots (171). In 24 Hockey East league games, the 5-foot-4 forward tallied 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists.
- She recorded a point in 21 of 36 games with nine multiple-point efforts.
- Curtis also was the top 'Cat in goals (13), points (22) and shots (133) as a sophomore in the 204-15 season.
- She redshirted the 2012-13 after incurring a season-ending injury in the fifth game of the season. She recorded six points (2g, 4a).
- The same injury sidelined Curtis the majority of the 2013-14 season. She played the first 10 games and tallied three points (2g, 1a).
- In 87 career games, Curtis has 33 goals and 31 assists for 64 points.
KATE HASLETT PROFILE
- Haslett, now a junior, skated in 35 of 36 games last season and made the transition from defenseman to center in the 10th game and remained there the next 26 games.
- She did not record a point in the first eight games skating as a defensemen, then scored a goal in her first as a center. Haslett went on to finish the year with four goals and five assists for nine points.
- As a redshirt freshman in the 2014-15 season, Haslett ranked fourth on the team in blocked shots. At the other end of the ice, she recorded goal and two assists for three points.
- Haslett played three games in teh2013-14 season before incurring a season-ending injury.
- Haslett has made the Hockey East All-Academic Team all three years.
- In 71 career games, Haslett has 12 points on five goals and seven assists.
MARIE-JO PELLETIER BIO
- Pelletier, a sophomore defenseman, skated in all 36 games in the 2015-16 season.
- Despite her small stature – she stands 4-foot-11 – Pelletier ranked second on the team in blocked shots with 67. That number ranked third in Hockey East.
- Pelletier tied for second among UNH defensemen in assists with eight. All of her points were recorded on assists.
