Smith, Jereczek Record Double-Doubles in 3-2 Win vs. Stony Brook

DURHAM, N.H. – Kennedi Smith (The Woodlands, Texas) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 18 kills and 17 digs to lead the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to Friday night's 3-2 victory against Stony Brook University at Lundholm Gym.
UNH overcame a 2-1 deficit with set scores of 25-18, 23-25, 24-26, 25-23, 15-11.
Smith's match-high 18 kills came on a .317 hitting percentage. In addition to the 17 digs, she also contributed four blocks.
Mali Jereczek (Green Bay, Wis.) recorded her third double-double of the season with 34 assists and 15 digs; she also had a career-high four service aces.
The Wildcats have won six of the last seven matches to improve to 8-10 overall and 3-1 in America East. SBU is now 11-7, 2-1.

THE DIFFERENCE
- Stony Brook was two points away from winning the match as the Seawolves had a 2-1 lead in sets and 23-22 edge in the fourth set, but three consecutive errors gave UNH the fourth set, 25-23, to level the match at two sets apiece.
- The Wildcats recorded 11 kills and one attack error for a .323 hitting percentage in the decisive fifth set, whereas SBU tallied seven kills and three attack errors for a .160 hitting percentage in Set 5.
SET 1
- There were five ties and two lead changes in a set the 'Cats captured 25-18.
- UNH held an early 5-2 lead before the visitors rallied to go ahead 10-8.
- New Hampshire responded with four consecutive points – Smith had a kill and solo block – to take a lead that would not be relinquished.
- Holding a 14-13 lead, the Wildcats went on a 5-2 spurt to build a four-point cushion of 19-15.
- UNH ended the set on a 4-0 run with the last two points coming on Jereczek service aces.
SET 2
- There were 10 tie scores and five lead changes in the second set, which ended 25-23 in favor of the Seawolves.
- UNH built an 11-7 advantage before Stony Brook chipped away and won four consecutive points to take a 15-14 lead.
- The Seawolves pulled out to a 24-19 advantage, but Petke's kill and combined block with Olhava extended the set.
- SBU committed an attack error and then Olhava's kill trimmed the deficit to 24-23, but a service error gave the second set to Stony Brook.
SET 3
- The third set had 10 more ties and two lead changes, and ended in favor of SBU, 26-24.
- The Seawolves inched out to a 10-6 advantage before UNH's 5-1 run tied the score at 11.
- The teams traded points to advance the score to 15-15, then SBU reeled off six consecutive points.
- New Hampshire closed within 22-19 but faced set points at 24-22.
- A Seawolves ball handling error and Courtney Bowman (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) service ace tied the score, but Stony Brook won the next to points to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
SET 4
- There were 15 ties and six lead changes in the fourth set, which ended with the Wildcats on top, 25-23.
- SBU took a 7-4 lead before New Hampshire rallied to tie the score at 9.
- The Seawolves transformed a 13-11 deficit into a 15-13 lead with four straight points.
- SBU led 18-16 when the 'Cats reeled off four consecutive points on back-to-back solo blocks by Molly Wotton (Dover, N.H.) and Jereczek, an SBU error and kill by Smith to surge ahead 20-18.
- Stony Brook won the next two points to forge another tie and then took a 23-22 lead before committing three consecutive errors.
SET 5
- In the race to 15, there were five tie scores and four lead changes.
- UNH broke out to an early 6-3 lead but the Seawolves rallied to go ahead 8-7.
- The 'Cats went on a 5-1 run to build a 12-9 advantage.
- Leading 13-11, back-to-back kills by Smith and Petke gave UNH the fifth set and the match.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire improved to 23-14 against Stony Brook with its ninth consecutive win in the series.
- UNH has successfully defended Durham each of the last 12 matches in Lundholm Gym.
- The Wildcats are 5-0 at home this season and the 'Cats have won 13 consecutive matches at Lundholm Gym.
- UNH has won 11 consecutive home matches vs. America East opponents, and that includes four in postseason play.
