Elinor Purrier has secured her second straight Championship appearance.
AMHERST, N.Y. – University of New Hampshire senior Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) won her second straight NCAA Regional cross country meet and has secured a spot in this years NCAA Championship meet.
Purrier finished first overall with a time of 21 minutes and 20.8 seconds. She began the race in a clump of 10 to 12 runners, but by the 3K mark that group had separated into a smaller group of eight, though she led that pack by a slim margin. Purrier pulled away in the final 3K and finished four seconds ahead of the next runner.
Other top Wildcats were Shannon Murdock (Exeter, N.H.) who finished in 25th with a time of 22:27.8 and Meg Champagne (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) who finished 35th at 22:38.6.
Rounding out the top scorers for the Wildcats were junior Riley Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) finishing 91st with a time of 23:22.8, and grad student Alyson Messina (Plymouth, Mass.) in 99th with 23:28.4.
The Wildcats finished ninth overall in the team standings with 251 team points.
With their top-25 finishes, Purrier and Murdock were named to the All-Region team.
