Wildcats Advance to Sweet 16 with Shootout Win at Dartmouth

UNH to Play at #2 Indiana on Saturday, Nov. 25
HANOVER, N.H. – With the game tied at 0-0 through two overtime periods, the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team then won the penalty kick shootout, 4-1, over Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon at Burnham Field in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats advance to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and will take on No. 2 Indiana in Bloomington, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Wildcats are now 13-3-5 overall, and the Big Green conclude their season with a 12-3-2 record.
This will be the first-ever NCAA Tournament third round appearance in UNH history. The Hoosiers, who defeated No. 25 Old Dominion, 3-0 in the NCAA Tournament second round, are the only undefeated team this season with a 16-0-5 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Noah Paravicini fired a header for the Big Green that missed the open net in the 36th minute.
- In the 38th minute of the first half, graduate student Willis Griffith (Amherst, N.H.) had the Wildcats first shot on goal with a bicycle kick that was saved by Christopher Palacios.
- In the 58th minute, freshman Jacob Gould (Exeter, N.H.) rifled a strong shot that Palacios was able to keep out of the net.
- In the 79th minute, the Wildcats were awarded a free kick, taken by graduate student Dante Lamb (Cape Town, South Africa) who from 20 yards out fired a shot that was saved by Palacios.
- In the 82nd minute, Dawson McCartney of the Big Green took a shot from five yards out, which was saved by red-shirt freshman defender Josh Bauer (Bedford, N.H.) on the goal line.
- After neither team was able to score in overtime, the game went to a penalty kick shootout.
- Each team scored in the first round of the shootout as Griffith and Wyatt Omsberg each found the back of the net.
- After a successful penalty kick by Lamb, Henry Baldwin's shot was saved in the lower left corner by graduate student goalkeeper Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) as the Wildcats took a 2-1 lead to the third round.
- UNH led 3-1 after the third round with a goal by Bauer, while Braden Salvati sent his attempt high.
- Graduate student Robin Schmidt (Cologne, Germany) clinched the shootout victory as he fired a shot to the back of the net advancing the Wildcats to the NCAA third round.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Wildcats outshot the Big Green, 12-10.
- Pesci made one save, while Palacios had seven saves.
- UNH had seven shots on goal, while the Big Green had one.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- This will be the Wildcats' first ever appearance in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
- Pesci posted his school record 12th shutout of the season.
