Tirone Named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week

Tirone posted his third shutout of the season with 34 saves at Yale.
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - University of New Hampshire senior goaltender Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.) has been named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week for his 34-save shutout as the No. 13 Wildcats won at Yale, 4-0, on Nov. 25. This is the fifth time in his career that Tirone has earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades and the second time this season (10/9/2017, 3/7/2016, 2/1/2016 & 1/19/2015). It is his sixth overall Hockey East weekly award as he received Player of the Week honors on March 6, 2017. He was also named the Goaltender of the Month this season for October.
Tirone posted his third shutout of the season with 34 saves as the Wildcats defeated Yale, 4-0. He is now 7-4-1. His .932 save percentage and 2.10 goals against average are both ranked second in Hockey East. His three shutouts lead Hockey East and are tied for second in the nation.
Tirone is second all-time at UNH with 3,050 career saves as he is only the second UNH goalie to ever post 3,000 saves. Kevin Regan (2005-2008) is first with 3,235 saves. Tirone has played in 104 career games which are second all-time in program history for a goalie. Regan holds the record with 112 games. Tirone's 45 career wins are tied for seventh, his 2.79 goals against average is seventh and his .913 save percentage is sixth.
The No. 13 Wildcats (7-4-1, 3-3-1 HEA) will travel to No. 9 Providence on December 1 for the first game of a home-and-home series with the Friars (7:15 pm). UNH returns home the following day and drop the puck at the Whittemore Center at 7:00 p.m. It will be Hockey for the Holidays night at the Whitt.
