Clancy Records Career-High 19 Saves in 18-11 Loss to Harvard

DURHAM, N.H. – Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) recorded a career-high 19 saves but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was upended by Harvard University, 18-11, in Saturday afternoon's season opener for both teams at Wildcat Stadium.
Devon Croke (Norwell, Mass.) scored four goals and Devan Miller (Bristol, R.I.) tallied four points on a goal and three assists to lead UNH's offense. Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Marissa Gurello (Manorville, N.Y.) also had multiple points with three and two goals, respectively.
Harvard's attack was led by Keeley MacAfee and Marisa Romeo, both of whom finished with four goals and an assist. Maeve McMahon (2g, 1a) and Nicole Baiocco (2g) also had multiple points.
Meredith Brown was credited with seven saves.

GAME RECAP
- After an even first half, Harvard dominated the second half in goals (10-3), shots (22-7), draw controls (10-4) and ground balls (17-8).
- With the score tied 8-8 at halftime, the Crimson opened the second half with four consecutive goals to build a 12-8 lead – neither team led by more than two goals in the first half.
- Schafer finished off Miller's feed for a player-down goal to trim the deficit to 12-9 at 15:19.
- Harvard responded with MacAfee's player-up goal 21 seconds later to reestablish a four-goal advantage and ignite a 5-0 run that extended the margin to 17-9 at 9:30.
- In the first half, UNH took leads of 1-0 and 2-1 on goals by Miller and Schafer, respectively.
- After Harvard tied the score at 2, Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) scored a free-position goal at 22:39 and Schafer converted a Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.) pass into a goal and 4-2 lead at 19:27.
- Harvard responded with four consecutive goals to transform a two-goal deficit into a two-goal lead of 6-4.
- The Wildcats answered with a 4-1 spurt to regain the lead, 8-7. Croke scored goals at 8:03, 2:47 and 50 seconds to fuel the run.
- Marisa Romeo scored her third goal of the first half with two seconds on the clock to send the teams into halftime tied at 8.

- Cat Sennott (Westford, Mass.) recorded a team-high four ground balls and was also credited with a caused turnover.
- In addition to scoring three goals, Schafer tallied a team-high three draw controls.
