Anderson, 'Cats Celebrate Record 24th Win, Title

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior guard Kristen Anderson (Greene, Maine) scored nine points and contributed six assists to help the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team celebrate Senior Night and Fan Appreciation Night with a record 24th win of the season on Thursday in Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats knocked off UMass Lowell, 58-45, and improved to 24-4 overall and 14-1 in America East and had much to celebrate.
They clinched their first outright America East title on Saturday with a win at Hartford and in a brief postgame ceremony Thursday night Coach Maureen Magarity and her team were presented with a trophy by league official Shonna Brown in recognition of the title.
Magarity's team has won its last five and 18 of its last 19 games.
Junior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) led all scorers with 15 points and sophomore forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) added 14.

The Wildcats close out the regular season with a game at UMBC on Sunday at noon on ESPN3.
They are the top seed for the first two rounds of the America East championships which will be played at Cross Insurance Center on Saturday, March 4 and Sunday, March 5.
If the Wildcats advance through the first two rounds of the tournament to the championship game, the title contest will be played at home in Lundholm Gymnasium on Friday, March 10 at 4:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

HIGHLIGHTS
It was a night of celebrations for the Wildcats.
"It was a fun night," Magarity said. "We had a lot to celebrate, especially our seniors. One thing that stood out was the way Kristen played. She made some great passes to her teammates."
Anderson's six assists left her in sole possession of the No. 3 spot on UNH's career list for assists with 381.
The Wildcats celebrated the program's first outright title and they celebrated a program record in wins.
Senior Corinne Coia was also honored. She's a captain of the team but has not been able to play this season because of injuries.
They also celebrated the accomplishments of Pogue. She hit both the 1,000-point mark and 500-rebound mark for her career in the fourth period against Hartford. Before the game, she received an engraved basketball noting the milestones.
Yes, it was a fun night.
"We got our 24th win and that was pretty cool," Anderson said. "We're not satisfied yet. But it was a special night."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Pogue had seven points to lift the Wildcats to a 17-14 lead after the first period.
They opened it up to 34-22 at the half. Pogue led the way with nine points in the half. Storey had eight and Healy seven.
UNH made 15 of its 31 shots (48.4 percent) in the first half and held UMass Lowell to eight-for-29 (27.6 percent) shooting.
The Wildcats stretched the lead to 50-26 after three periods. Storey made the first UNH basket of the fourth period and was up to her season-high 14 points.
