Bossi's Overtime Goal Lifts 'Cats Past #17 Iowa, 3-2

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Rachel Bossi (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored a goal at 3:36 of overtime to lift the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Friday night's 3-2 victory against 17th-ranked University of Iowa at Grant Field.
The Wildcats have won two consecutive games to improve to 3-1. Iowa is now 2-4.
UNH starting goalkeeper Kelsey Rudert (North Grafton, Mass.) made five of her seven saves in the second half. She did not face a shot in OT.
Iowa's Katie Jones was credited with five saves, including one in the extra session.
Up next: at University of Iowa – Sept. 10 (1 p.m. Eastern)
Next home game: Friday, Sept. 22 vs. Stanford, 1 p.m.

"We did an awesome job coming back after being down 1-0 and Iowa fighting back, putting a lot of pressure on us, going on corner and tying the game," 27th-year UNH head coach Robin Balducci said. "And in overtime, Bossi came up big for us again with a deflection. Kelsey Rudert played outstanding for us in the goal cage in the final minutes to keep us in it."

GAME RECAP
- Iowa took a 1-0 lead on Sophie Sunderland's goal at 8:51.
- UNH surged in front on second-half goals less than 12 minutes apart by Rachel Thomson (Reading, Mass.) and Katie Audino (Severn, Md.).
- Thomson tied the score, 1-1, off a pass from Taylor Scafidi (Waltham, Mass.) at 42:30.
- Audino scored her team-leading third goal of the season – and unassisted tally – to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead at 54:14.
- The Hawkeyes leveled the score, 2-2, when Katie Birch scored on a direct shot off a penalty corner with 3:20 left in regulation.
- New Hampshire generated the only scoring chances in overtime. The 'Cats were awarded a corner two minutes into OT and Jones stopped the shot off the stick of Ashley Mendonca (Brampton, Ontario).
- UNH earned a second corner, and once again Bloem van den Brekel (Eindhoven, Netherlands) inserted the ball into play. This time Bossi redirected the shot by Gianna Bensaia (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) into the cage to end the game.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Bossi also scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Northeastern University in the season opener.
- This is the second consecutive year UNH upends the 17th-ranked team in the country on the road. Last year, the Wildcats defeated University at Albany, 2-1.
