Camara (14p, 16r) and Leissner (20p, 11r) Propel 'Cats With Double-Doubles
DURHAM, N.H.– Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) and Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) both recorded a double-double to lead the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to Wednesday night's 71-67 victory – the 400th career win for head coach Bill Herrion – against Binghamton University at Lundholm Gym.
Camara notched his seventh double-double of the season in the first half with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and he finished with 14 points and a game-high 16 rebounds to lead UNH to a 46-26 edge on the glass.
Leissner scored a team-high 20 points and pulled down 11 boards for his sixth double-double of the season.
John Ogwuche (Makurdi, Nigeria) recorded 11 points, three rebounds and two assists. He also excelled on the defensive end of the court, where he helped limit Binghamton's leading scorer J.C. Show to 12 points on 5 of 13 shooting from the floor.
Herrion led the Wildcats to their sixth win of the season and 163rd in his 13th year at the UNH helm.
Binghamton was led by Willie Rodriguez (23 points), Timmy Rose (14) and Show (12).
New Hampshire won its second consecutive game – eighth straight vs. Binghamton – to improve to 2-1 in America East and 6-11 overall. The Bearcats are now 9-8 overall, 0-2 AE.

DOWN THE STRETCH
- UNH took an 11-point lead, 63-52, on a layup by Evan Horn (Lebanon, Pa.) at 7:34 of the second half.
- Neither team scored again until Rose hit a layup at 4:11 to trim the deficit to single figures, 63-54.
- That basket ignited a 7-0 run that lifted the Bearcats within 63-59 with 3:09 remaining.
- Leissner's pair of free throws was answered by Show's basket at 2:09 to move the score to 65-61.
- Leissner grabbed an offensive rebound and hit two more fouls shots – he went 9-for-10 from the line in the second half, including 6 of 6 in the last 2:17 – to reestablish a six-point cushion of 67-61 at 1:36.
- Show drained a long-distance 3-pointer from the top-left side and Binghamton called timeout with 55 seconds on the clock and UNH leading 67-64.
- On the ensuing Wildcats' possession, it was Camara who went to the line and he hit both free throws to push the lead to five points, 69-64, with 19 seconds to play.
- Rodriguez made both foul shots as the Bearcats inched within three points with seven seconds left. Leissner was quickly fouled on the inbounds pass and hit both free throws to give the home team a 71-66 advantage.
- With 1.6 seconds on the clock, Rose hit one foul shot and intentionally missed the second to close the scoring.
GAME RECAP
- Camara finished a feed from Leissner for a quick 2-0 lead on the first possession of the game, and that helped New Hampshire race out to a 10-2 lead in the opening four minutes.
- Binghamton slowly chipped into the deficit and leveled the score at 26 on a layup by Rodriguez at 6:39.
- UNH responded with a 12-2 run that included 3-pointers by Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.), the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, and Ogwuche.
- Leissner hit a jumper in the paint to extend the margin to 12 points, 45-33, in the closing minute but Rodriguez answered with a layup to make it 45-35 at the half.
- UNH's lead fluctuated between 6-10 points until a Jacoby Armstrong (Dallas, Texas) jumper pushed the advantage to 11 points, 61-50, at 9:18.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- There were no lead changes and just one tie – 26-26 at 6:39 of the first half.
- New Hampshire led for 39 minutes, 1 second. UNH built a game-high 12-point lead, 45-33, with 28 seconds left in the first half and it was never a one-possession game until Show's 3-pointer made it 67-64 with 55 seconds left.
- UNH shot 88.0% from the foul line with 22 makes on 25 attempts. Binghamton finished 11-for 18 (61.1%) at the line.
- The Wildcats built a 45-35 lead going into halftime on the strength of 55.2% shooting from the floor, including 6 of 14 (42.9%) on 3-pointers.
- Binghamton shot 51.7% in the first half and 40.7% in the second half – 46.4% overall. The Bearcats held UNH to 19.2% (5-26) in the second half.
- New Hampshire's 46-26 rebounding advantage included a 13-3 edge on the offensive glass, which led to an 8-2 mark in second-chance points.
- The visitors recorded a 36-26 scoring edge in the paint, as well as 10-1 off turnovers and 10-4 in fastbreak points.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Coach Herrion is the 129th Division I head coach to reach 400 career wins.
- Leissner became the second Wildcat to eclipse 1,700 career points; with 20 points vs. Binghamton, he has 1,715.
- Leissner increased his UNH records for free throws made (474) and attempted (609).
- Leissner climbed to No. 23 on the America East scoring leaderboard; he surpassed Greg Smith (Delaware; 1993-97), who finished with 1,713 career points.
- Leissner, who was also an instrumental part in breaking Binghamton's full-court press, played all 40 minutes for the second consecutive game.
- Camara increased his career rebound total to 868, which is No. 2 on UNH's leaderboard and 29 short of the 897 benchmark held by Dave Pemberton (1969-72).
- UNH has won each of the last two games by less than five points; the 'Cats were 0-5 in games decided by less than five points against non-conference teams.
- UNH used its 10th different starting lineup of the season with Ogwuche and Darryl Stewart (Atlanta, Ga.) at guard, and Camara, Leissner and Jacoby Armstrong (Dallas, Texas) at forward.
