Lauter notches first place on balance team to power ‘Cats to two wins
BOSTON – Senior co-captain Casey Lauter (Northport, N.Y.) scored a 9.925 for an individual balance beam victory, and the University of New Hampshire gymnastics team opened the 2018 season with a second-place finish (194.175) in Saturday night's Little Boston Invitational quad-meet at the Hynes Convention Center. The Wildcats (2-1) defeated Maryland (194.100) and East Atlantic Gymnastics League rival Towson (193.800) and finished runner-up to Temple (194.875).

NEXT HOME MEET
UNH, which has defeated 28 consecutive opponents at Lundholm Gym in a streak that dates back to March 8, 2014, plays host to its home opener against the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, Jan. 13 (7 p.m.) Tickets are available HERE or by calling 603-862-4000.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
FIRST ROTATION
•The Wildcats scored a 47.825 on floor exercise to open the meet. Nicole O'Leary (Newtown, Conn.) registered a 9.800 to lead the way.
SECOND ROTATION
•Erin Carroll (Kingston, N.H.), Marissa Toci (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and Lauren Diggan (Sinking Spring, Pa.) each scored a 9.750 on vault to propel UNH to a 48.500 in its second event.
THIRD ROTATION
•Danielle Mulligan (Farmingdale, N.Y.), the 2017 EAGL uneven bar champion, opened her junior season with a first-place tying 9.875 on bars, which spearheaded the team's score of 48.700. Mulligan is tied for 14th nationally on bars.
FOURTH ROTATION
•Lauter's 9.925 not only won the beam championship, it also tied Peng-Peng Lee of UCLA and Sarah Finnegan of LSU for the nation's top score in that event in 2018. Mulligan tallied a 9.850, which tied for second place (19th nationally) with Towson's Mary Elle Arduino and Maryland's Audrey Barber.
WILDCAT NOTEBOOK
•UNH is tied for second nationally with Arkansas on balance beam with a 49.150. Florida is No. 1 with a 49.275.
•Carroll, who shared the team's top score on vault, returned to the lineup for the first time since Jan. 21, 2017. The 9.750 was her highest personal mark since tallying a 9.775 at Texas Woman's University on March 4, 2016.
•The 'Cats improved in every rotation: floor (47.825); vault (48.500), bars (48.700), beam (49.150).
•The Wildcats are ranked 19th in the RoadtoNationals.com Top-25 through Saturday night's results.
•New Hampshire did not have an all-around gymnast. Towson's Tyra McKellar won the all-around with a 39.075.
