Team Commitment
Please review the information below very carefully. It outlines
the commitment you agree to make if selected for the 2010-2011 UNH
Cheerleading Team. The commitment can be demanding and is for the
entire school year so please consider this carefully before trying
out.
The UNH cheerleaders are a very dedicated team who pride
themselves on not only being great cheerleaders but also great role
models within the campus and greater community.
Games
The primary role of the UNH Cheerleaders is to support UNH
athletics and promote school spirit. The cheerleaders cheer for
football, women's volleyball, and men's and women's basketball and
cheerleaders are expected to attend all assigned games.
Cheerleaders are also expected to cheer basketball games over
winter break.
Practices
Practices are usually 3 times a week and include gymnastic
training. Practices are typically in the evening and are sometimes
on the weekend. You will be expected to attempt to arrange your
class schedule around practice times.
You will also be required to work out 2-3 times per week at the
Whittemore Center for conditioning. This includes cardio training
as well as strength training.
All members will be required to run a mile at the end of each
practice. You will be timed once a month and are expected to run
the mile in under 8 and ½ minutes.
There will be summer weekend practices. These practices will be
one weekend in June, one in July, and camp in August. These
practices will be double session for two days and are
mandatory.
Competition
The team will compete at NCA Collegiate Nationals in Daytona
Beach, FL in April 2011. There will also be local competitions and
demos that each team will perform at throughout the year. The UNH
program prides itself on being a top competitive program in the
country.
Camp
The UNH Cheerleaders will be attending NCA Cheerleading Camp. Camp
is mandatory for all cheerleaders. Camp will be August 4-6 at
Boston University and is $262. There will be mandatory practices
2-3 days before the camp begins at UNH to prepare.
Fundraising
The UNH Cheerleaders receive minimal financial support so
fundraising participation is mandatory. There will be several
required fundraising events (clinics, working UNH and outside
