DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire Cheerleading program will hold try-outs for the 2012-2013 squad on May 6th in the indoor track at the UNH Field House under the direction of the program's newest Head Coach and Wildcat Alumna Mary LeRose '09.
Tryouts for the 2012-13 All Girl cheerleading team will be held May 6th in the indoor track at the UNH Field House. The tryout schedule will be as follows:
10:00 am – 10:30 am Registration/$20 Tryout Fee
10:30 am – 11:30 am Learn Tryout Material
11:30 pm – 12:00 pm Jumps/ Interviews
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Lunch Break (on your own)
1:00 pm – 1:30 pm Sideline & Fight Song/Finish Interviews
1:30 pm – 2:30 pm Stunting Session
2:30 pm – 3:30 pm Tumbling
4:00 pm Team Posted

Sideline & Fight Song
A sideline and fight song will be taught as part of the material. It will be performed with the tryout groups. New members are strongly encouraged to review the fight song video prior to tryouts. Click here to view the fight song.
The stunting portion of tryouts will set up like a practice. Be prepared to move around in groups and to perform more than one position if asked. Candidates should exhibit strength, technique, and core awareness in their stunting technique. Candidates should also exhibit the ability to perform at more than one position. Being as versatile as possible with stunting is strongly recommended.

*Flyers have the option to single or double down; however, the cleanliness of a dismount will earn more points than the difficulty of the dismount.
Interviews are informal and service as a chance for the coach to get to know you. Tryout attire may be worn for interviews. Each interview will be conducted in groups. The size of the group will be determined after registration. Each group interview will last approximately 10-15 minutes.

* Please note that potential participants under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign these documents as well. Without their signature, you will not be able to participate in tryouts.
**Proof of UNH Acceptance is required by June 1, 2012 for those who make the squad.
Candidates should look game ready- collegiate image is an important part of the selection process. Please be tasteful in your selections. We are asking that everyone wear navy blue, white, black or gray.
Fitted t-shirts or athletic tops are to be worn with shorts.
Cheerleading shoes are required.
No jewelry (includes non-visible body jewelry)
A hair bow is optional
Tryouts will consist of jumps, standing/running tumbling, a sideline, the fight song, stunting skills and an interview. Tryouts will be conducted in groups of 4.
There is one cheerleading team at UNH (All Girl). Males are encouraged to tryout. Placement on the team will be up to the discretion of the Head Coach and will depend on skill and team needs. If you are selected to the squad, you will be required to stay for a MANDATORY meeting after the squad results are posted.
Candidates who are unable to attend tryouts are encouraged to tryout via video submission. Video submissions must be received by Friday, May 4th at 5:00 pm via email or postal mail (please note videos postmarked but not received by this date will not be accepted). Video submissions should be easily viewed on most computers and can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed in DVD format to:

Please review the information below very carefully. It outlines the commitment you agree to make if selected for the 2012-2013 UNH Cheerleading Team. The commitment can be demanding and is for the entire school year so please consider this carefully before trying out.
The UNH cheerleaders are a very dedicated team who pride themselves on not only being great cheerleaders but, also great role models within the campus and greater community. The primary role of the UNH Cheerleaders is to support UNH Athletics and to promote school spirit.
The cheerleaders support Football, Men's and Women's Basketball. The cheerleaders are expected to attend all home games for these sports including games over winter break. Twelve cheerleaders will be selected based on skill level, attendance, and academic standing to be part of a travel squad. The travel squad will travel to select away football games and select post-season football and basketball games, including the NCAA Tournament, if applicable.
Practices will be held 2 times per week. Practices are typically in the evening during the week. If class schedules conflict with practices, practices will be moved to the weekend. You will be expected to attempt to arrange your class schedule around practice times.
You will also be required to work out 1-2 times per week at the Whittemore Center Fitness Center for strength/conditioning. Cheerleaders in certain stunt positions may be asked to attend spot related practices, i.e. flyers, bases, backspots.
The decision to attend a summer camp will be determined as a squad after try-outs.
The coaching staff may decide to add benefits or perks for the cheerleaders throughout the year. The team is financially responsible for funding these added benefits. There will be several required fundraising events (clinics, working UNH and outside events, etc.) that will be mandatory for team expenses, as well as personal fundraisers where you will have the opportunity to fundraise for your personal expenses like warm-ups, sneakers, or camp.
The following are a list of estimated costs for the season. Additional costs may be added throughout the year.
