UNH Cheerleading Announces 2012-2013 Team
DURHAM, N.H. – Head coach Mary LeRose announced the 25-member University of New Hampshire Cheerleading team roster last week. The freshman class includes Kelsie Aufiero (Canton, Mass.), Stephanie Bradley (Canton, Mass.), Deanna Christiansen (Danvers, Mass.), Christina Corbett (Wantagh, N.Y.), Marissa D'Angelo (Monroe, Conn.), Hailee Flaherty (Scarbourough, Maine), Taylor Metta (Beverly, Mass.), Melissa Power (Nashua, N.H.), Rebecca Pulcini (Canton, Mass.), Adrianna Rothera (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Samantha Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.), and Sydney Tarby (Southbury, Conn.).
Returning sophomores include Caroline Anastasi (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Sam Baril (Litchfield, N.H.), Jessica Boucher (Sandown, N.H.), Jaclyn Lemieux (Marshfield, Mass.), Jenna Shellard (Attleboro, Mass.), Maggierose Smith (Cambridge, N.Y.), and Sera Stackpole (Litchfield, N.H.).
Returning upperclassmen include Jesenia Aviles (Derry, N.H.), Kaelyn Bouchard (Concord, N.H.), Gabrielle Huebner (Lamoine, Maine), Kara Karcz (Plaistow, N.H.), Lea Girard (Exeter, N.H.) and Sara Velardi (North Andover, Mass.).
Seniors Lea Girard and Sara Velardi were named captains of the squad for the 2012-13 season. After spending the summer as a National Cheerleading Association's Camp Instructor for the second time, Girard will enter her third year on the UNH cheerleading team. Velardi will be entering her fourth year with the team, while both will graduate next May with a bachelor's degree in hospitality management.
"Lea and Sara are two of the most talented athletes on the team this year. Both are extremely versatile in stunting and have outstanding leadership skills. I am excited to have them serve as captains and leaders of this program," LeRose said.
Thirty-three women attended the 2012 – 2013 UNH Cheerleading Spring Tryouts. Fall tryouts will be announced in August and due to the skill level of the squad, applicants must be able to perform the required skills listed on the tryout application.
