DURHAM, N.H.-- Junior quarterback Ryan Day (Manchester, N.H.) completed 12 of 22 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wildcats in the University of New Hampshire football team's annual Blue/White scrimmage on Saturday afternoon. The first team defeated the second team by a 13-7 margin.
Day, who was the starting quarterback last season for the 'Cats, also rushed five times for 44 yards and strengthened his hold on the top spot for the 2000 season.
Leading the way in rushing for the Wildcats was sophomore tailback Stephan Lewis (Coatesville, Pa.) who carried the ball 10 times for 70 yards, while he also caught three passes for 21 yards.
Another tailback who had a huge day in terms of scoring was sophomore Imion Powell (Berlin, N.J.), who caught a pair of touchdown passes from Day, including a 35-yarder at 6:15 of the second quarter and a 20-yarder at 9:58 of the third stanza. Powell had four catches for 68 yards on the afternoon. He also rushed twice for 14 yards.
The only other touchdown of the contest came in the first quarter, as senior quarterback Mike Apple (Bath, N.Y.) connected with a 35-yard touchdown pass to sophomore tight end Kane Anderson (Manchester, Conn.).
On the defensive side of the ball, redshirt freshman defensive lineman Kern Mojica (Hastings, N.Y.) recorded a huge sack for a loss of eight yards. There were no turnovers in the contest.
