DURHAM, N.H.-Senior linebacker and co-captain Brett Bashaw (Newburyport, Mass.) was named the Atlantic 10 Football Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding efforts in UNH's impressive upset victory over 25th-ranked Hampton University on Sept. 2.
Bashaw was all over the field for the Wildcat defense and led all tacklers with 13 on the afternoon. In addition, he recovered two fumble recoveries and returned one for 21 yards. He also notched three tackles for a loss of six yards.

Bashaw is a graduate of Newburyport High School, where he made 120 tackles as a linebacker and lettered in both basketball and track.
Bashaw and his teammates will return to action this coming Saturday (Sept. 9) with its home-opener vs. Rhode Island in a key Atlantic 10 matchup. Game time is set for 12 p.m. and and the contest will be carried live on the UNH Sports Network and on WMUR-TV (Channel 9).
