The official announcement was made today by third-year head coach Sean McDonnell. Named captains for next year were four seniors: quarterback Ryan Day (Manchester, N.H.), offensive center Jason Ball (Londonderry, N.H.), defensive end Jon Oosterhuis (Guelph, Ontario) and strong safety Bryce Scottron (Hingham, Mass.).

12/26/2000 PITTSBURGH-Former University of New Hampshire fullback Dan Kreider (Manheim, Pa.) was named the recipient of the Joe Greene Great Performance Award, given annually to the Pittsburgh Steelers' top rookie. The award is voted upon on by members of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America.

11/06/2000 DURHAM, N.H.-The University of New Hampshire football team cracked the Sports Network I-AA Top 25 for the second time this season on the heels of an amazing 45-44 OT come-from-behind victory at then- No. 2 Delaware on Oct. 4. UNH, which has defeated two top 25 teams in a row, was ranked 24th and was the only new team to enter the poll. UNH was ranked as high as 23rd earlier this season after opening the 2000 schedule with a 4-0 record. UNH will look to improve to 7-3 on the season when it entertains Gardner-Webb University (5-4 overall) on Nov. 11. Game time is 12 p.m. at Cowell Stadium.

As a result of his efforts, he was the recipient of this week's Coca Cola Gold Helmet Award, which he received today at the New England Football Writer's Luncheon on the campus of Harvard University.
10/29/2000 STEPHAN LEWIS NAMED ATLANTIC 10 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK AND WINS BILL KNIGHT AWARD AS MVP OF UMASS/UNH CONTEST: Sophomore tailback Stephan Lewis (Coatesville, Pa.) brought home the hardware this week after carrying the ball 35 times for a career-high 245 yards and scored three touchdowns in the huge 24-16 victory over No. 14 Massachusetts. As a result of his efforts, he was named the Atlantic 10 Football Conference's Offensive Player of the Week. He joined some impressive company when he was voted by the media to be the recipient of the Bill Knight Trophy, which is given to the MVP of the UMass/UNH football game. Lewis scored on touchdown runs of 6 and 24 yards and scored the game-winner on a six-yard shovel pass from junior quarterback Ryan Day (Manchester, N.H.). Lewis is among the Atlantic 10 league-leaders in rushing, scoring and all-purpose yards.
