David Ball

DURHAM, N.H.-- Sophomore wide receiver David Ball (Orange, Vt.) of the No. 5-ranked University of New Hampshire football team was named a first-team Walter Camp I-AA All-American on Friday afternoon.

Ball led the Wildcats with 86 catches for 1,504 yards and 17 touchdowns and averaged 125.3 reception yards per contest in 12 games played. All of those numbers were good for season records at UNH.

Ball was also ranked among the top three in I-AA football in nearly every passing category, including yards per game and receptions per contest. The final national rankings will be released following the completion of the I-AA championship in Chattanooga Tenn.

Ball was a key in helping the Wildcats to a 10-3 record and their first appearance in the I-AA playoffs since 1994. UNH went on to win its first-round contest at Georgia Southern (27-23) and then lost in the quarterfinals at Montana (47-17).

Ball, who originally came to UNH on a track scholarship as a high jumper, was also named first-team All-Atlantic 10 and first-team All-New England for his efforts on the gridiron.

A graduate of Worcester Academy, Ball lettered in football, basketball and track. An All-New England wide receiver, he compiled 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns.
