PHILADELPHIA-- Sophomore quarterback Ricky Santos (Bellingham, Mass.) was named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week for his outstanding efforts as the he led the University of New Hampshire football team to an impressive 62-21 victory on the road at Towson University on Sept. 17.
Santos, one of 16 top candidates for the Walter Payton Award, completed 23-33 passes for 422 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for a pair of touchdowns. He recorded scoring passes of 36, 46 and 39 yards to teammates Jonathan Williams, Keith LeVan and David Ball, and ran for touchdowns of seven and five yards.
The 422 passing yards was the second-best passing performance of his young career with his best effort being 538 passing yards in 2004 at Villanova. It marked the sixth time has thrown for over 300 yards and the second time he has thrown for over 400. With his 422 passing yards, he has surpassed the 4,000-yard passing mark for his career and now has 4,076 yards in just 15 contests played placing him seventh on the all-time listing at UNH. He is now needs just 10 more passing yards to pass Chris Bresnahan on the list and 109 to move into sixth right behind Mike Granieri who is in fifth.
Santos helped UNH to score 62 points in the game, which is the most ever scored against Towson at home in Unitas Stadium.
