DURHAM, N.H. -- The 2006 schedule for the University of New Hampshire football team was announced Friday by the UNH Athletic Department and the Wildcats, who broke the school single-season win total with an 11-2 record and No. 1 national ranking in 2005, will kick off the 2006 season Sept. 9 at Northwestern University of the Big Ten Conference.
That game will mark the fourth time in five years that UNH will square off against a Division I opponent. The 'Cats won at Rutgers University, 35-24, in 2004 and played road games vs. Central Michigan (40-33 loss) and Kent State (34-7 loss) in previous years.
New Hampshire will play its home opener Sept. 16 against non-conference opponent Stony Brook University and travel to play intrastate rival Dartmouth College on Sept. 23 before opening conference play Sept. 30 at Delaware.
The Wildcats will be home three of four weekends in October, beginning Oct. 7 vs. the University of Richmond. James Madison University travels to Durham for UNH's Homecoming Weekend on Oct. 14 and Hofstra University comes to town Oct. 28 for Family Weekend.
The last of New Hampshire's five regular-season home games is Nov. 4 vs. the University of Massachusetts.
UNH hits the road for an Oct. 21 game vs. Northeastern University and ends the 2006 regular season with consecutive road games against the University of Rhode Island (Nov. 11) and Maine (Nov. 18) in the annual battle for the Brice-Cowell Musket.
