DURHAM, N.H.-Senior All-America tight end Jonathan Williams (Rochester, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire football team was recently selected to play in this year's inaugural Magnolia Gridiron Classic, which features many of the top football players from around the nation. The game will be played on Sat., Dec. 24, at Veteran's Memorial Statdium in Jackson Mississippi. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. EST.
The Magnolia Gridiron Classic is a showcase event for college I-A players whose teams were not invited to a bowl game but have the potential to continue their playing careers in the NFL and for the college I-AA players possessing that same potential. The game will feature the I-A All-Stars against the All-Stars from I-AA. Scott Stoker, head coach of Northwestern State will head the I-AA team, while University of Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips will lead the I-A team. Each team is expected to consist of 45 players from around the nation.
Williams, a 6-4, 235-pounder, was the Wildcat's third-leading receiver with 50 catches for 535 yards and five touchdowns in 2005. He also ranks among the UNH all-time leaders in receiving yards.
