DURHAM, N.H.—The first AnyGivenSaturday.com Preseason FCS Poll was recently released and the University of New Hampshire football team was picked to finish seventh in the nation.
The Wildcats are coming off another successful season, where the squad advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the third consecutive time and posted a 9-4 overall record. Over the past three seasons, UNH has recorded an impressive 30-9 overall mark under the direction of ninth-year head coach Sean McDonnell.
National champion Appalachian State led the way with (97) first-place votes, followed by Montana (16), North Dakota State, Youngstown State, Massachusetts (1), Northern Iowa (1), UNH, James Madison, Furman and Cal Poly to round out the top 10.
The Colonial Athletic Association (which consists of teams formerly from the Atlantic 10) and the Gateway Football Conference each led the way with four teams in the Top 25.
UNH’s 2007 football schedule should be as tough as any in the country, as the Wildcats will play No. 5 Massachusetts and No. 8 James Madison on the road and No. 18 Delaware at Cowell Stadium.
The Wildcats open the 2007 season on Sept. 8 when the squad travels to James Madison and UNH will play its home-opener on Sept. 22 vs. Dartmouth. Tickets are available online at www.unhwilidcats.com or at the UNH ticket office.
