DURHAM, N.H.— University of New Hampshire senior quarterback Ricky Santos (Bellingham, Mass.) has accepted an invitation to play in the 62nd annual Hula Bowl, to be held at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii on Jan., 12, 2008, beginning at 6 p.m. EST. The game will be shown live on Versus.
Santos is one of three QBs competing for the East team, along with Bernard Morris of Marshall University and Paul Smith of Tulsa. Morris and Santos played against each other in UNH’s upset victory vs. the Thundering Herd this past season.
Santos, who was picked on every FCS All-America squad for his efforts in 2007, including the Associated Press All-America squad, placed third among the top quarterbacks ever in the NCAA FCS in career TD passes with 123 and in career passing yardage with a four-year total of 13,212 yards.
In 11 games played this season, Santos completed 256 of 350 passes for 2,972 yards and 24 passing TDs, while he also ran for nine more TDs. His completion percentage of 73.1 was among the top marks in the nation and he averaged 270.2 yards per contest. He finished fifth in the Walter Payton Award voting.
Santos, named the Co-CAA Offensive Player of the Year, was selected as the CAA Offensive Player of the Week three times in 2007 and earned National Offensive Player of the Week three times by various media outlets.
Selected as a team captain for the 2007 campaign, Santos led UNH to a 7-5 overall record and a first-round game in the NCAA FCS playoffs at Northern Iowa. He led UNH to the NCAA playoffs four straight times during his career.
