UNH FOOTBALL CLIMBS TO NO. 5 IN FCS COACHES POLL
The fifth-ranked Wildcats (1-0) trail only Montana, the new No. 1 team, Southern Illinois, Appalachian State and Villanova, which tumbled from the top spot after losing, 31-24, at Temple on Friday night. The Grizzlies received 16 first-place votes and 662 points overall after dismantling Western State, 73-2, while the Wildcats tallied 518 points. The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) led all conferences with seven teams in the top 25. Joining No. 4 Villanova and No. 5 UNH are Richmond (No. 7); James Madison (No. 11); William & Mary (No. 14); Delaware (No. 17) and Massachusetts (No. 20). The FCS Coaches Poll is based exclusively on a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS under the cooperation of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and is administered by the Southern Conference.
