CAMBRIDGE, Ma. -UNH sophomore linebacker Matt Evans (Hanover, Mass.) received the New England Football Writers' Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Award on Wednesday. It marked the third straight day Evans was honored for his performance in the Wildcats' victory at James Madison on Oct. 16.

Evans previously was named the CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 18) and the ECAC Division I Football Subdivision Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 19).

Evans, the CAA's leader with 80 tackles, scored the game's first points when he picked up a fumble from Dukes quarterback Drew Dudzik and raced it back 17 yards for a touchdown with 12:04 remaining in the opening quarter. Evans' 14 tackles, including eight solo stops, matched a career high, and the 6-foot, 219-pound middle linebacker also collected a sack as part of his 2.5 tackles for loss. Evans has reached double-digit tackles in five consecutive games and six of New Hampshire's seven games this season.
