WACO, Texas – UNH senior defensive back Dino Vasso (Crum Lynne, Pa.) has been named to the 2010 AFCA Football Championship Subdivision Coaches' All-America Team. The announcement was made Tuesday by the American Football Coaches Association.
Vasso, a senior captain and four-year starter for the Wildcats, is tied for the CAA lead in interceptions (six), tops the conference with 14 passes defended and is tied for the team lead in pass breaks-ups (eight). Vasso has compiled 52 tackles, 36 solo, and in 50 career games at UNH -49 starts- has snared 18 interceptions, two shy of the school record, and his 282 overall tackles rank 11th in school history.
The 5-9, 175-pound cornerback was previously honored as a member of the All-CAA First Team and the All-New England Team.
The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all of five of its divisions.
Vasso and the 10th-ranked Wildcats take on fifth-ranked Delaware in the NCAA D-I Football Championship quarterfinals Friday night at 8 p.m. at Delaware Stadium. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 HD and ESPN3.com at 8 p.m. and broadcast live on the Wildcat Sports Radio Network beginning with the pregame show at 7:30 p.m.
