Football's R.J. Harris wins Gold Helmet Award

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston selected University of New Hampshire wide receiver R.J. Harris (Odenton, Md.) as this week's recipient of the Gold Helmet Award for the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

Wednesday's announcement at Harvard's Dillon Field House recognized the sophomore for his 12-catch, 102-yard effort in the No. 14/12 Wildcats' 38-17 victory at Holy Cross on Aug. 30. Harris, who matched a career high for catches while adding a personal-best 57 yards rushing on four carries, scored on an eight-yard pass from Sean Goldrich (West Haven, Conn.) in the second quarter and accumulated a game-leading 159 all-purpose yards.

It is the first career Gold Helmet award for the 6-foot, 194-pound receiver, who posted the fifth 100-yard receiving game of his Wildcat career.

No. 14/12 UNH (1-0, 0-0 CAA) visits the University of Minnesota (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) of the Football Bowl Subdivision on Saturday, Sept. 8, for a 12 p.m. (EDT) kickoff at TCF Bank Stadium. The game will be telecast live on the Big Ten Network.
