RICHMOND, Va. – University of New Hampshire quarterback Andy Vailas (Bedford, N.H.) and cornerback Dontra Peters (Annapolis, Md.) were named as the CAA Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. Monday's announcement comes on the heels of the 20th-ranked Wildcats' 34-14 upset victory over No. 8 Delaware on Saturday at Cowell Stadium.
Vailas, who garners his first career CAA honor, finished the afternoon by equaling a career high with 23 completions on 36 attempts for 315 yards. The sophomore threw two second-half touchdown passes to R.J. Harris (Odenton, Md.), a 32-yard connection and a seven-yard strike, and added a one-yard TD rush to highlight his team-leading 14 carries for 36 yards.
Peters snared a pair of interceptions during UNH's decisive 34-0 second-half run to go along with his three tackles and first career half-sack. The senior co-captain's three picks are tied for the league lead, and the converted running back is leading a defensive unit that paces the CAA with a plus-seven turnover margin. This marks the third career CAA weekly award for Peters, who claimed Special Teams Player of the Week twice in 2011.
The Wildcats (3-2, 1-1 CAA) venture to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta to tangle with Georgia State (0-5, 0-0 CAA) on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 3:30p.m. For more information, visit www.unhwildcats.com.
