RICHMOND, Va. – University of New Hampshire junior kicker/punter Mike MacArthur (North Hampton, N.H.) has been named the CAA Football Special Teams Players of the Week. Monday's announcement followed MacArthur's performance in Saturday's 44-40 Homecoming victory against Richmond.
MacArthur earned the ECAC honor Tuesday.
The 5-foot-10, 199-pound kicker drilled a 27-yard field goal with 1:08 remaining in the fourth quarter to go along with his perfect 5-for-5 PAT kicking. MacArthur punted five times, with an average of 35.8 yards per punt and a long of 51 yards that pinned Richmond at its own 1-yard line late in the fourth. That swaying of field position helped set up the Wildcats' go-ahead 51-yard TD drive with 2:57 left.
It is the first career CAA weekly award for MacArthur, who was named the All-CAA Second Team kicker last season and the All-CAA Third Team kicker as a true freshman in 2010.
No. 12/14 UNH (5-2, 3-1 CAA) visits Maine (2-4, 1-2) for the 100th all-time meeting Saturday, Oct. 20, at 12 p.m. The annual battle for the Brice-Cowell Musket at Alfond Stadium will be broadcast live on CSN-NE. For more information, visit www.unhwildcats.com.
