UNH Field Hockey Defeats Hofstra 4-2

Hempstead, N.Y.-Senior midfielder Kristin Iarrusso (Southwick, Mass.) recorded a hat trick to lead the University of New Hampshire field hockey team over Hofstra University 4-2 Sunday. The Wildcats improve to 7-2-0 and 2-0-0 in AMERICA EAST play. Hofstra falls to 3-8-0 on the year and 1-1-0 in conference action.

UNH jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half. Iarrusso scored her first goal 5:37 into the game for a 1-0 lead. She struck again less than two minutes later off an assist by junior back Kelly Stowe (Topsfield, Mass.) for the 2-0 lead. Her third goal came at the 15:03 mark and sophomore forward Tami Street (Kingston, N.Y.) scored with less than two minutes in the first half to close out the scoring for the Wildcats.

Hofstra got on the board on the second half when sophomore midfielder Kathryn Carroll put one past Wildcat junior goaltender Amy Agulay (London, Ont.). Sophomore forward Jennifer Swett scored Hofstra's second goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game to close out the scoring 4-2.

Agulay made eight saves and Hofstra freshman netminder Christine Hickey recorded 16 saves in the loss.

UNH returns home to face Northeastern University Sunday at 1 p.m.
