Old Dominion Shuts Out UNH Field Hockey 5-0

Storrs, Conn.-Marika DiGiacomo recorded a hat trick as Old Dominion University blanked the University of New Hampshire field hockey team 5-0 Sunday at the University of Connecticut. With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 8-4-0 and 3-0-0 in the AMERICA EAST Conference.

DiGiacomo scored her first goal four minutes into the first half off an assist from Ashleigh Miller for a 1-0 lead. She struck again over 23 minutes later to give Old Dominion a 2-0 advantage. Maroilijn Van der Sommen closed out the first half scoring on a goal with over five minutes left for a 3-0 lead. Tiffany Snoin recorded the assist.

In the second half, Kim Miller extended Old Dominion's lead to 4-0 off an assist from DiGiacomo. DiGiacomo scored her third goal of the game with 24 seconds remaining in the game to close out the scoring 5-0. Miller recorded her second assist of the game on the goal.

Junior goaltender Amy Agulay (London, Ont.) made 12 saves in the loss. Old Dominion keeper Marybeth Freeman stopped six shots for the victors.

The Wildcats play two conference road games this week against Boston University on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Vermont on Saturday at 2 p.m.
