New Hampshire's Christine Buckley named America East Rookie of the Week in field hockey

BOSTON - Christine Buckley (Walpole, Mass.), a freshman goalkeeper on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was named America East Rookie of the Week on Monday. She is the first UNH player to win the award since Marcie Boyer (Dillsburg, Pa.) received the honor Oct. 4, 1999.

In her only action last week, Buckley made a career-high 10 saves to record her first career shutout in UNH's 1-0 victory at Harvard University on Sunday. She stopped eight of those shots in the second half and faced seven of nine penalty corners over the last 35 minutes. For the week, she recorded a 0.00 goals-against-average and a 1.000 save percentage.

On the season, Buckley has a 2-3 record with a 2.00 GAA and a .795 save percentage. She has played in five of the team's six games with four starts and a total of 280 minutes.

New Hampshire (3-3) looks to extend its winning streak to three games Wednesday against nationally-ranked University of Connecticut. Game time at Harvard University's Jordan Field is 3 p.m.
