New Hampshire field hockey falls to Hofstra, 3-1

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Shannon Watson of Hofstra University scored a pair of second-half goals to lead the Pride to a 3-1 America East victory against the University of New Hampshire at Hofstra Stadium on Friday afternoon.

UNH is now 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference while Hofstra improved to 6-4, 1-1.

New Hampshire tied the game late in the first half on an unassisted goal by Marcie Boyer (Dillsburg, Pa.). Hofstra had taken a 1-0 lead on a Leslie King tally two minutes into the game.

Watson broke the 1-1 deadlock at 20:10 on a penalty corner. Her second tally at 13:03, again on a penalty corner with the assistance of Allison Barnett and Jennifer Swett, gave Hofstra a 3-1 lead.

UNH goalie Julie Munson (Dover, N.H.) recorded five saves and Hofstra's Christine Hickey stopped nine shots.

New Hampshire returns to action Sept. 30 (1 p.m.) at Drexel. The next home game for the Wildcats is Oct. 5 against Northeastern. Game time is 4 p.m.
